About Us
Welcome to Model United Nations at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities! The UMN Model United Nations is a collegiate level organization that is associated with the official United Nations Association of the United States of America as a part of the only Minnesota Chapter. Our organization, founded about seven years ago, works to educate students on diplomacy, international affairs, human rights, and more while also developing valuable skills in public speaking, leadership, legislation writing, and problem-solving.
This organization is designed to help students understand how the actual United Nations would function and prepare those who are seeking a future career along the UN track while allowing others to understand the chaos of the international world and creativity of simulations. Each year we travel to other collegiate Model United Nations conferences to compete against students from across the nation. At these events, students simulate the United Nations by acting as a nation’s representative to one of the various UN bodies. We debate a variety of issues with other delegates and write resolutions to solve these global crises. Additionally, we host our own collegiate conference each spring — MinneMUN. Members can either attend the conference or work on staff as committee chairs, simulations coordinators, and more.
In addition to the competitive side of our club, we strive to educate students across campus on international issues and engage in advocacy work. Events such as our annual United Nations Day and our Human Rights Gala gatherings work to teach students the benefits of diplomacy and multilateralism while raising awareness on human rights work. Additionally, our members volunteer with our parent organization, the United Nations Association, working to educate students of all ages on international affairs. If you have any interest in our work or simply want to meet some cool people, we would love to see you at our meetings! Whether this is your first time hearing about Model United Nations or you’ve already won a Best Delegate award, feel free to reach out to unsa@umn.edu for more information! If Model United Nations is an organization that might be worthwhile and valuable for you, do not hesitate to join since no prior experience is even necessary. We hope to welcome you to the UMN MUN team!
